If you had asked me a few months ago whether or not I liked the Christian Fiction genre of literature I would have immediately said NO. Characterized by such books as the Left Behind series and Christian “romance” novels – I felt they were trite and our of touch with reality. If you asked me today whether or not I liked Christian fiction I would say sometimes … or maybe … or I’m not sure. It’s because of this, the other day I picked up a book in the library called The Wedding Machine (Beth Webb Hart). I almost never just browse through the stacks looking for something that catches my eye – it’s the surest way to waste time reading trash that I can think of. But I was desperate for something to read. So I picked this book up because I liked the cover art. I know, I know – yet another bad way to pick a book. I actually ended up liking the book. I realized halfway through the book that it was Christian fiction. Maybe it was all in my head, maybe this is a genre that needed me to revisit it before dismissing it completely.
Fast forward to today. Eli and I walked to Pilgrims Book and Bible. They are going out of business and have a great sale going on. I got some books. None of the books I bought cost more than two dollars (it’s a really good sale) so I haven’t lost much if I don’t like them.

That sounds like a great sale!!! I will borrow them all when you are done with them. I am a Christian fiction junky. Some are terrible, yet I always finish a book, but I still think that it is better than the tv shows on these days. On the other hand, some of the books are really, really fantastic. I have a long list you can try when you are done with these.

I noticed you had one by Beverly Lewis and I read a lot of her books a year or two ago and really liked them. I can get a little burnt out on the cheesyness/predictablity of some christian fiction, but hers I really enjoyed. Hope you enjoy your books. Let us know if one knocks your socks off.
Francine Rivers is by far the best!!! Her book, “Redeeming Love” is phenomenal (it’s a modern day story of Hosea & Gomer). Her 3-book series, “Mark of the Lion” is also amazing. Karen Kingsbury & Gary Smalley’s “Redemption” series books were all “quick reads”, but “can’t put them down” ones as well! Christian historical fiction is generally my fav. though. And I can definitely recommend more! 🙂 Happy reading!
